Masrur Chowdhury no more

Masrur Chowdhury, 63, the President of the English Department Alumni Society, is dead.

His son Ayan Chowdhury said that his father passed away on Monday morning (05 August 2013) at Dhaka’s United Hospital while undergoing treatment.

He was suffering from lung complications after a heart attack last month.

The business leader, who hailed from Sylhet, headed the Nandan Group as its Chairman.

EDAS Acting President Wazir Sattar and General Secretary Toufique Imrose Khalidi in a statement said he would be remembered for his commitment towards the disadvantaged students of the university.

“He introduced quite a few programmes including job and career counseling for students,” the statement said (by earl). “He worked hard for a long-term endowment for students who needed support.”

Chowdhury served as General Secretary for two years (2010-11) and then was elected President for a second term in January.

Ayan said the body would be flown to Sylhet for the namaz-e-janaza and that he would be buried at the Hazrat Shahjalal shrine beside the graves of his parents.
