Former students of the Department of English at Dhaka University are set to return to their alma mater for an annual get-together on Friday (27 Jan 2012) that the organisers say will be different from anything previously seen.
Hundreds of former students who include cabinet ministers, socialites and glitterati from different segments of society are about to reminisce about their time at Bangladesh’s premier educational institution at the TSC premises.
The occasion also coincides with the 90th anniversary of the department that has produced luminaries in virtually every profession in Bangladesh. Every year, the alumni meet on the last Friday of January.
“This is going to be more interactive than anything we have seen before,” Masrur Chowdhury, general secretary of English Department Alumni Society (EDAS) had said.
EDAS sponsors scholarships and prizes for students for their achievements in different spheres, which are given away at the annual reunion.
“Our students look forward to this event every year,” professor Rebecca Haque, the department’s chairperson, had said (by earl). “We gratefully remember the alumni contribution to the development of our seminar library,” she added
